This is a place for posting messages for the blog admin when they are not truly comments in response to specific postings.

Not really an “Open Threads” box. More of a publicly open message “Drop Box.”

Are you going to be covering the 2nd Congressional District race? I hope you will because most traditional-media outlets aren’t paying attention.

I’m proud to be supporting Mazie Hirono.

For information on her campaign, please see her website:

Daily Kos has been covering this race a bit:

    Hi David,

My ruminations might lead me to consider the Second CD race. But once I start posting on the 2nd CD, that will provide an opening for you to post plenny pro-Mazie comments, so maybe I will just keep you trapped inside this little “incoming messages” box instead!

I am going to try to attend the Candidate forum being held next Wednesday, so that might start me thinking a bit more about that contest. I believe all the major candidates, in fact ALL the candidates, except one, are going to be there, so it will provide a convenient place for one-stop shop and compare.

I’m glad to hear that Mazie is going to be there. I would have thought that she would have the most reason to be reluctant to agree to an event that will showcase all the candidates on an equal footing. One more point for Mazie!

The PDH site says that all the candidates were given a set of questions to answer. I’d like to see all the answers of the candidates posted in one place so voters can compare their answers.

Also, if the PDH questionaires are going to be made public (will they?), wouldn’t it be great if all the candidates would agree to make public all the answers to all the questionnaires they have filled out for all the interest groups?

One year Corrine Ching was endorsed by the Sierra Club for election. Someone slipped me a copy of Corrine’s answer to a Christian Coalition (or was it “Christian Voice” survey). She had told the born-agains that she thought “Creationism” should be taught alongside evolutionary theory in the public schools!

When I told this to one of my friends on the Sierra Club board, he couldn’t believe it. It is unlikely Corrine would have gotten the Sierra Club endorsement if the biological scientists on their board had been aware of her answer to the Christian Coalition survey.

I think all candidate surveys should be made available to the public. If a candidate is willing to tell one group one answer, then every group should be able to check and make sure that the candidate is telling everybody the same thing.

Maybe if I designed an endorsement questionnaire, rather than come up with my own questions, I woud ask which surveys they had already filled out and then I would ask, how did you answer the questions of Group X. heh-heh
